Firestone Plantations Company

In 1926, Harvey S. Firestone obtained a 99 year lease from the government of Liberia for a million acres, thus creating the world's largest rubber plantation[1]. This plantation was the largest employer in Liberia and had wide ranging effects on the country and it's people.

Philatelic ties

Firestone is responsible for Liberia's first air mail service which started on February 28, 1936. Firestone's Waco biplane was used to transfer mail from Duside (near Monrovia) to Harper, Cape Palmas[2].
