Although he claimed to product artful "facsimiles" of stamps[1], François Fournier (1846-1917) is known as a famous forger through his business practices more so than his forgeries[2]. in 1914 he even produced his own catalog of "facsimiles" which contained almost 3400 stamps. His business started when he purchased the forgery business from his predecessor Louis-Henri Mercier.

Fournier Liberian Forgeries

Fournier is known to have forged the 1860-69 Seated Liberty Issue and 1880 Seated Liberty and it is suspected that he also forged the 1881 Coat of Arms Issue.
